Snowball - recipe by Jill Slater

Materials

One-half brick floral foam
1 yard 1/2 tree-inch diameter cording
1 wire clothing hanger
Masking tape
50 stems standard white carnations
Floral preservative, clippers, scissors and knife

snowball arangement featuring white carnations

Optional materials

1 stem seeded eucalyptus
1 ornament

Directions

Step 1 - Soak the floral foam in water that has been treated with floral preservative for at least 30 minutes.
Step 2 - Shape the floral foam into a round/ball shape with knife.
Step 3 - Tape both ends of the cording with masking tape.
Step 4 - Straighten out a wire hanger and then tape the cording to one end of the hanger. This makes it simple to pull the cording through the center of the floral foam ball.
Step 5 - When cording is pulled through the center of the ball, knot the cording so that the ball is supported. This knot is the bottom of the snowball. (Optional - at this time tie on the ornament with cording at bottom)
Step 6 - Create a 4-inch loop to hang the snowball with the cording now at the top of the snow ball. Simply knot it to itself.
Step 7 - Cut the standard carnations to approximately 1-inch in length and insert them into the floral foam. It's easiest to start at the top of the snowball and work in a circular pattern. If desired insert 1 short stem of seeded eucalyptus into the top of the snowball.

Design Notes

The snowball will drip water for several hours after completing it. Therefore, initially hang the ball in a location where it can drip and not ruin furnishings.
