Market Central, a non-profit
dedicated to finding a permanent
home for Charlottesville's City
Market, is pleased to announce
that it will host its largest
Farm Tour yet from 10 am - 4 pm
on Labor Day, Sept. 6th. With
four times the number of farms
participating this year, "Meet
Yer Eats" will give area
residents a rare and expanded
glimpse of life behind the gates
of working farms in the
Charlottesville area.
For a $10 Car Pass purchased
in advance or a $15 Car Pass
purchased the day of the tour,
visitors can see first-hand how
and where their foods are grown,
as well as buy garden-fresh
fruits and vegetables and
artisan meats and cheeses
directly from area farmers who
grow and sell their food locally
for a living.
From apples to zucchini, host
farms grow a wide variety of
produce. Warm weather crops like
tomatoes, melons and squash --
which can be bought the same day
they were picked or even picked
at some farms by Tour visitors
-- will be in abundance.
Chickens, beef cattle, goats,
sheep, donkeys, and honeybees,
as well as many friendly farm
dogs and cats, will also be
there to greet curious visitors.
