Veteran's Day, November 11, 2008 Event
Special War of 1812 Grave Marking in Greene County
A War of 1812 Grave Marking will be held on Tuesday, 11
November 2008, at 2 PM, at the Moyers Family Cemetery west of
Stanardsville.
The Madisons of Montpelier Chapter of the
National Society of United States Daughters of 1812, will
honor Michael Moyers, who served as a 16 year old in
Rockingham County VA, along with his older brother Jacob, and
father Jacob Moyers.
A Militia Regiment existed in the Greene
County area of what was then Orange County during the period
1784-1815; other War of 1812 ancestors in Greene County
include Captain John Beadles and Sanford Deane.
The cemetery
is located between Route 33 Stanardsville Bypass and Route 33
Stanardsville Business at the western edge of the town; from
the Bypass, go past the stop light at Celt Road-Route 623, to
next right at Route 33 Business, Spotswood Trail.
In
attendance at the ceremony will be Mike Layman, Graves
Chairman of the Men's Society of the War of 1812, who will
give a program earlier at the Chapter Meeting at the Blue
Ridge Café on War of 1812 grave markings in Virginia and what
has been accomplished to date.
