This was, in
fact, the First Place float in this year's parade.
Parade Chairwoman Beth Borntrager (above right in blue blouse)
is handing the blue ribbon to Mount Vernon United Methodist
Church. Second Place winner was Brownie Troop #308 and
the Third Place winner was the 53rd Pennsylvania Volunteer
Infantry Reenactment Unit. The Central Virginia based
unit has been reenacting since 1995 and has been reenacting in
Stanardsville for 4 years. We look forward to seeing
them during the Battle of Stanardsville in September.
Beth and her
crew deserve a HUGE round of applause for giving all of us
such a wonderful July 4th morning. Since there was so
much to see, I enlisted the aid of fellow Greene County writer
Ann Mullen to take pictures from near the judges stand.
There were plenty photos to snap and they are on
photo gallery pages.

Ann Mullen is a good friend to us,
especially helping us with extra pictures of this big event.
Her real talent though is as Greene County's mystery maven.
Check out our page on Ann and her novels.
Ann also helped last year with the
Magnificent Mutt show that followed the parade. Check
out pictures of both if you missed them.
