The Stanardsville 2008
Fourth of July Parade
As
American, Apple Pie and
Mom - the Fourth of July
parade represents
Americans at their most
patriotic and their
proudest. And
nothing is more patriotic
and American than the
hometown parade - like
this one in
Stanardsville.
Like many
town across American, the
flag is special but not
just for special
occasions.
Neighbors
and businesses join
government buildings to
proudly display the red,
white and blue. We
just spread the colors
around more during
special celebrations like
the Fourth.
Naturally,
the day begins as
American Legion Post #128
raises the flag on this
year's celebration.
The perfect site, our
nation's proud Stars and
Stripes joined by the
Virginia blue.
The
setting is courthouse
square where marble
monuments stand vigil
over our freedoms.
Each is marked with the
names of fallen hometown
heroes - one monument for
each war. We have
only one left to add -
the Iraq/Afghanistan
conflict where Adam Fargo
(his family and his
friends) gave his future
for ours.
