Visit
Greene County this
July Fourth weekend and
Celebrate a Red, White
and Blue Ridge holiday.
(All on a
background of Greene!)
Vacation
Virginia and Center
Yourself in Greene.
See the landscape of
presidents, patriots and
pioneers.
If you
want to be a person not
just another number
walking through crowd
control lines, then this
is the place for you.
Out-of-the-ordinary,
outstanding and, did we
mention, out of the
madding crowd.
Following
are our personal
selections for the
weekend. More
suggestions (along with
general holiday
information like recipes)
can be found at our
July Fourth
Index
Friday, July 4th
9:00AM
Watch the flag
raising
at the courthouse, listen
to a reading of the
Declaration of
Independence and sing the
National Anthem.
Then stroll around - get
a flag from the Ruritans
and maybe a watermelon
slice from the
Republicans while you
pick your perfect
parade-watching spot.
(Don't
forget to drop by the
special Farmer's Market
next to the Ruritans to
pick up fresh, local
produce.)
Before or
after the parade,
check out the Greene
County Historical Society
Open 10AM - 3PM
Check our
Link for
photos, map and
information. It is
right next to the
Courthouse and has very
interesting materials to
view.
After
the parade, buy a
souvenir you can truly
enjoy from one of our
many unique businesses
including
The Little
Shop on Main Street or
other
Center Yourself in
Greene Businesses

You may
want to pick up a
delicious lunch at the
Little Shop on Main
Street (light sandwiches,
soups and salads and
their
special-too-delicious-to-miss
peach cobbler.)
Or
on July 4th help raise
funds for the Greene
Habitat for Humanity
Chapter at the special
BBQ sponsored by
Stanardsville United
Methodist Church.
Save your
gas, stay in Greene.
Visit our businesses or
take a walk in the Park.
See our page for photos
of
past events and
information about the
park.
Check
out our Visitors Center
where you will see the
latest quilt display and
view the mural depicting
Greene County.
(Check
our page.)
Come
evening you have several
choices. Use the
wonderful produce you
purchased at the Farmers
Market to make a fresh,
tasty dinner. (See our
Cooking Good in Greene
and our
Farmer's Market page
for suggestions.)

You can go
see local fireworks
displays -
Rockets Red
Glare listing.
We suggest you avoid the
traffic south and head
north to Graves Mountain
Lodge in Madison or
Culpeper.
Or
you can go to local
fireworks on Saturday and
spend the Fourth in
comfort watching the
televised
National Celebrations.
Saturday, July 5th
You
will want to begin the
morning with a selection
from the regularly
scheduled
Greene County Farmer's
Market from 8:00AM -
11:00AM. Be first
for the most selection.
This stuff is good and
goes fast.
Check our
calendar or
events page for more
activates or see the
special
July Fourth events
page for other
celebrations through the
weekend.
You
can go Presidential with
a trip to Monticello or
Ash Lawn Highland in
Charlottesville,
Montpelier
in Orange County or go as
far as Fredericksburg to
visit Kenmore and Ferry
Farms - both unusual
patriotic destinations.
Kenmore was the home of
Washington's mother and
Ferry Farms is
Washington's boyhood
home.
We suggest
you don't travel far
because you will want to
use some of your fresh
produce to pack up a
picnic dinner for the
Orange
County Celebrate Orange
Picnic in the Park with
fireworks. There is
a $5 parking fee per
carload but the
entertainment, music,
children's activities and
fireworks are free.
If you
don't want to take a
meal, then you can buy
food and drinks there.
You will want to carry
lawn chairs or blankets
for relaxing.
4:30PM -
10:00PM with fireworks
scheduled for 9:30PM.

Choose
your activity from many
but never forget your
time in Greene County
surrounded by the beauty
of the Blue Ridge and the
welcome of our community.
However
you choose to celebrate
the holiday, we
encourage you to do it
safely.
Don't
drink and drive and don't
get in a car with a
driver who has been
drinking. This
applies to all vehicles
including boats.
Obey the
rules of the road and the
rules and guidelines at
all activities and
attractions.
Take care
of yourself and those
around you.
Remember
that our many freedoms
bring responsibilities.
Celebrate with good cheer
and good sense.
