Jerry Lee BortnerJerry Lee Bortner

Jerry Lee Bortner, 60, of Stanardsville, Virginia passed away Friday, March 21, 2008 at his home.

Jerry was born on March 11, 1948 in Kendallville, Indiana. He is the son of Virginia Getts Bortner and the late Max Joseph Bortner.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Bortner.

He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Debra Reid Bortner; his mother, Virginia Getts Bortner of Albion, Indiana; two sons, Patrick Bortner of Albion, Indiana, David Bortner of Ruckersville, Virginia; one daughter, Sarah Marker and her husband, Jay of Albion, Indiana; two brothers, Jack Bortner and his wife, Eileen, John Bortner and his wife, Norma all of Auburn, Indiana; two aunts, Helen Bortner of Auburn, Indiana, Hilda Schneider of Fort Wayne, Indiana; four grandchildren, Emma Marker, Adam Marker, Destini Bortner, Diamond Bortner; many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

Jerry proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the American Legion and the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club. He was also a licensed amateur “ham” radio operator.

Jerry was the human resource manager at Badger Fire Protection. He was currently the Mayor of Stanardsville having served in this capacity for 14 years. He had also served on the Greene County Planning Commission and was a member of the Stanardsville Area Revitalization (STAR.).

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Monday, March 24, 2008 at the Ryan Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at the Ryan Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Norma Dean officiating.  Interment will follow at Westover United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Westover United Methodist Church, PO Box 200, Ruckersville, Virginia 22968 or the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club, 118 Park Street S.E., Vienna, Virginia 22180.
