Mary Ann Garth
Mary Ann Garth, 81, of Stanardsville, VA passed away
peacefully at home on Monday, January 16, 2012,
after a seven year battle with multiple myeloma. She
was born on February 19, 1930 to the late Herman
Roswell and Edith Alma Taylor Berry.
Mary Ann was a member of Stanardsville United
Methodist Church. After graduation from William
Monroe High School, she worked for Peoples National
Bank of Greene (now Bank of America) where she
retired after 23 years to help babysit her
grandchildren and worked for the family business,
Blue Run Grocery.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother,
great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death
by her husband of 62 years, Thomas Moyers Garth,
brothers, Warren Berry and Alban Berry,
brother-in-law, Sewell Davis and sister-in-law, Gail
Berry.
She is survived by her two children, Deborah Kaye
Garth Deane and her husband, Lebert, and Thomas
Michael Garth and his wife, Annette, sister,
Christine Davis, brother, John Berry and
sisters-in-law, Betty Berry and Jewel Berry .
Additional survivors include her grandchildren, Amy
Deane Wayland and her husband, Jamie, Joseph Michael
Garth, Jeremy Thomas Garth and his wife, Danielle,
Travis Wesley Garth, and Jessica Marie Garth and his
great-grandchildren, Bailey Wayland, Alexis Wayland,
Jacob Wayland and Lathan Garth, 11 nieces and
nephews and numerous great and great-great nieces
and nephews.
She was an avid fan of the Redskins, the UVA
Cavaliers, the William Monroe High School Dragons
and her granddaughters’ Blue Ridge Heat fast-pitch
softball team. She loved to read. She will be
remembered for her love of traveling, snow and the
Outer Banks.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, January
19, 2012 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Ryan Funeral Home,
12819 Spotswood Trail, Ruckersville, VA 22968.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, January
20, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Stanardsville United Methodist
Church with Rev. Richard Davis officiating.
Interment will follow in Holly Memorial Gardens.
A special thanks to Dr. Maya Ghaemmaghami and the
staff of the HOPE Center at Martha Jefferson
Hospital for their years of care as well as Hospice
staff, Mary Dillon, Edith Thomas and Ermenia
Jandoio. The family also wishes to express a thanks
to her dear neighbor, Erva Shifflett, her niece,
Mary Konetski for the weekly meals and her nieces,
Diane and Lois Berry for the companionship to the
family in her final days.
