Alma Virginia Longley

Alma Virginia LongleyAlma Virginia Longley, 90, of Stanardsville went to be with the Lord Friday, April 11, 2008 at the Martha Jefferson Hospital.

Alma was born March 24, 1918 in Rockingham County Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Ursher and Grace Longley.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald Longley and Carl Longley; one sister, Dorothy Jeanne Roberts; three brothers-in-law, James Likens, Harry Watson and Ronnie Roberts.

She is survived by three daughters, Carolyn Samuels Bain of Warsaw, Virginia, Wanda Haney Shelton and her friend M.D. Mallory of Dyke, Virginia, Lisa Michelle Tilley and her husband Lonny of Ruckersville, Virginia; two sisters, Blanche Longley Likens of Charlottesville, Virginia and Margaret Longley Watson of Ruckersville, Virginia; seven grandchildren, Terry Leigh Bain, Jill Bain Wine, Shane Nicole Shelton, Jamie Shelton Taylor, L. Erin Shelton, Amanda Byers Nelson and Schuyler Michelle Tilley; eleven great grandchildren, Christina Katherine Trevillian, Adam Nicholas Jenkins, Eric Longley Jenkins, Jenna Katherine Wine, Morgan Joseph Wilson, Andrea Bain Wine, Austin Tyler Hayes, Christian Michael Taylor, Amber Nicole Hayes, Emma Gammon Taylor and Daniel Abraham Nelson.

Alma attended Bethel Baptist Church. She was a seamstress for many years for the UVA Athletic Department. Alma enjoyed gardening, animals and was very Patriotic. Her favorite colors were red, white and blue. Alma gave good definition to the words “Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother”. She always said, “Don’t hold grudges and always love the Lord”.

The family would like to give thanks to the Evergreene Nursing Home, Dr. Joseph Bernheim, Dr. Williams, Dr. Hill and the Martha Jefferson Hospital for their wonderful care of Mother.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 P.M. Monday, April 14, 2008 at the Ryan Funeral Home with Rev. Wendell Lamb officiating. Music for the service will be provided by the Emmanuel Christian Center, Myrna Ford Wilmer, Karen Ford, David Pullen, Eddie and Tina Deane.

Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in McGaheysville, Virginia. Pallbearers are Everette Bain, Kenneth Flournoy, Lonny Tilley, Abe Nelson, Danny Morris, Drew Wine, M.D. Mallory and Bob Gilman. Following the interment the family will hold a reception at the Stanardsville Fire Hall.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 P.M. Sunday April 13, 2008 at the Ryan Funeral Home.
