Elsie McMullen

Elsie McMullen, 93, went home to be with the Lord on March 3, 2008, at her Greene County home.

She was born on May 6, 1914 in Greene County.  She was raised by her mother, Lissie Morris and her maternal grandmother, Eleanor Morris. 

Elsie was preceded in death by her mother, Lissie Morris; her grandmother, Eleanor Morris; three husbands, Niceadaus Lamb, Roy Breeden and James McMullen; two sons, Niceadaus Lamb, Jr., Ennis Breeden and Otis Lamb; three stepchildren, Allie Jarrell, Marcellus Lamb and Haywood Lamb; one brother, Billy Morris; 2 grandchildren.

She is survived by one son, David Lamb and wife, Hester of Stanardsville, Virginia; two daughters, Shirley Durrer and her husband, John of Ruckersville, Virginia,  Buford Horner and her husband, Finley of Arlington, Virginia; two stepsons, Paul and James McMullen; and many other loving family members and friends including her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Elsie was a very loving mother and grandmother.  She will be greatly missed by all.

Elsie was employed by a local restaurant for many years.  She and her husband, James, operated a custard stand in Ruckersville for many years.  In her later years, she owned and operated “Elsie’s Antiques” in Barboursville. 

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at the Ryan Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at the Ryan Funeral Home Chapel with Travis Hensley officiating. Interment will follow at the Ruckersville Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in Elsie’s memory to the Greene County Rescue Squad, PO Box 302, Stanardsville, Virginia 22973.
