William Earl Shifflett, Sr.

William Earl Shifflett St.William Earl Shifflett, Sr., 87, of Stanardsville passed away Tuesday, January 8, 2008 at his home.

Earl was born on June 29, 1920 in Rockingham County. He was the son of the late William Oscar Shifflett and Vernie Roach Shifflett.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Essie C. Shifflett; two brothers, Tallie Shifflett and Talmadge Shifflett; one daughter, Joyce D. Shifflett..

He is survived by four daughters, Brenda Wyant and her husband, Wade, Janet Andrews and her husband, James all of Stanardsville, Darnell Morris and her husband, Randy of Earlysville, Linda Dunnivan and her husband, Royce of Raleigh, North Carolina; his grandchildren whom he loved very much, Randall Morris, II, Dustin Morris, who lived with him; Charles Wyant, II, James Andrews II and his wife, Tina, Joyce Andrews and her friend, Steve Thomas, R.J. Dunnivan, Jr., Ricky Dunnivan and his wife, Bridget, Jaclyn Dunnivan; six great grandchildren, Katie Dunnivan, Brent Laconico, Josephine Dunnivan, Travis and Taylor Dunnivan, Wesley Carter; many other family members and friends including, Recil Shifflett who was a lifelong friend and employee working for Earl for at least 40 years.

Earl was a building contractor for 66 years, the last 55 years he was self-employed. He completed building projects for larger companies, restaurants, banks and other businesses. He and his wife owned and operated the Old Dominion Restaurant in the early sixties and in the seventies operated the Circle Inn in Ruckersville.

As a young man, he enjoyed fox hunting with his father. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and he will be greatly missed.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, January 11, 2008 at First Bible Baptist Church with Rev. James Woods officiating.  Interment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Thursday, January 10, 2008 at the Ryan Funeral Home.
