Thomas Linwood Whitten, Sr.

Thomas Linwood Whitten, Sr., 68, of Stanardsville, VA died on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at his residence. He was born on February 7, 1943 in Charlottesville, VA to the late Thomas “Mac” Whitten and Mabel Kennedy Whitten.

Mr. Whitten proudly served his country from 1961-1965 in the United States Air Force SAC Unit 579.

He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, JoAnn Sheler Whitten, his son, Thomas L. Whitten, Jr. of The Woodlands, TX, two granddaughters, Naomi Elizabeth and Grace Olivia Whitten both of The Woodlands, TX, his sister, Susan Gianokas and her husband, Jeff of Charlottesville and his brother, Dan Whitten and his wife, Jann of Greenwood.

Additional survivors include his brother-in-law, Leonard “Booster” Sheler and his wife, Mary, sister-in-laws, Betty Meadows and her husband, JR, Ida Rogers, Nettie Collier and her husband, Elbert, Mary Pace and her husband, Bill, and Trina Dorrier and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Riverview Cemetery with Pastor Josh Shifflett officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be in his name to the Greene County Rescue Squad, PO Box 302 Stanardsville, VA 22973.
