Editor's Note from Alex
Carrier:
Wonderful people come
into my life every day.
They are young, old,
tall, short, of every
description imaginable
and I am blessed to know
them all.
One of those
blessings is a military
nurse serving in Iraq.
She spends her time
making life better for
those lives she works to
save – our men and women
of the armed forces.
Sometimes this means more
than medicine, it means
finding spaces in
dangerous days to bring
hope from home.
For safety’s
sake and privacy, I’ll
call this wonderful lady
(representative of so
many caring for our
troops) Nurse Madge. This
is after a beloved aunt
who had no children of
her own but somehow
managed to turn every
person she loved into
someone as precious to
her as any son or
daughter.
Nurse Madge does
have children of her own
– and a husband – waiting
to welcome her stateside.
She misses all of them
and her emails often
reflect her longing to be
with family.
In the meantime,
she stands in and cares
for those young wounded
troops whose mother’s
worry and long for them
to come safely home. That
caring precipitated an
email – and a request for
help to provide some
taste of home for her
“Bagdad Dads” this coming
Father’s Day.
This message was
forwarded to me by our
Greene county VFW Post
8208. The members of the
post work to supply aid
and care to wounded
troops stateside and what
they can to troops in
Iraq.
If you wish to
help in this effort,
please contact me by
email @
madge@vgreene.com
and I will forward your
offer to this VFW Post.
From
Nurse Madge:
I need
your help! Father's Day
is coming up and I want
to make the dad's here
feel special and remind
them that it's still
their day to celebrate
and that they do have
little ones at home who
miss them.
I am organizing the
conference room in the
CSH (combat
support hospital)
that's going to play
Seinfeld, Family Guy, The
Simpson's, and other TV
re-runs. I'm going to
have light refreshments
of trail mix, popcorn,
soda, chips, etc.
What I need are gifts,
small prizes, raffle/door
prizes. If you can help
me at all please send it
my way.
Father's Day is the 2nd
week on June. It can be
sports, beer, music,
movies, x-box/ps2/3
games, controllers,
memory, electrical,
masculine hygiene items,
cordless razors, etc.
I'm just throwing
everything I'm doing your
way. If you can't help I
understand, but I'll
still throw it at you
because I know you care
and I want to include you
on everything.
Thank you!
Blessings,
