Read about the Greene County Food Bank

The problem with hunger is that it never goes away. You’re hungry. You eat something and the hunger stops. Hours later, you’re hungry again.

Feeding your hunger is a simple matter of going to the cabinet or refrigerator and getting something to eat…unless the cabinet and refrigerator hold nothing but empty shelves and hunger is something you can’t feed.

The Greene County Food Bank works to make sure no one in Greene County goes hungry. The Women’s Club of Greene County administers the Greene County Food Bank and raises funds to fill the shelves.

Greene County Social Services distributes food to those needing help in an emergency. Food is distributed from the Social Services office located at 10009 Spottswood Trail in Stanardsville. The office is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM until 4:30 PM. Phone 985-5246.

The Greene County Food Bank is the only source of emergency food assistance that is located in the county and available to residents in need on a daily basis. The food bank is able to help the hungry through the generous support of the community. Donations stay in the county and are used to feed the hungry in Greene County.

If you would like to make a donation of non-perishable food, you can drop the food off at Social Services during working hours.

To make a monetary donation to the Greene County Food Bank, mail your check made payable to the Women’s Club of Greene County to P. O. Box 352, Stanardsville, VA 22973. Please put “Food Bank” in the memo line and include your name and address so the Women’s Club can thank you for helping to feed the hungry in our community.

For more information about the Greene County Food Bank or to make a donation, contact Women’s Club volunteer Elaine Barnett at .
